1 Pound German White Seed Garlic
1 Pound German White Seed Garlic
German White is a wonderful tasting Porcelain cultivar with large, easy to peel cloves. Grows extremely well in our region (7a) and also in the Northeast. Has some heat and is definitely one of my personal favorites. Stores well for up to 6 months. For planting and culinary uses.
Indulge in the extraordinary taste of naturally grown, non-GMO garlic meticulously hand-planted, weeded, and harvested for your enjoyment.
We retain the leaves throughout the curing process, allowing the bulbs to draw more energy and flavor…a culinary refinement akin to fine-aged wine.
Instructions
1. Open the box immediately upon receipt to inspect all bulbs. Store in a cool, dry, dark area until ready to plant.
2. For cooler regions, plant in October; for warmer regions, plant in November or early December.
3. Ensure the planting area is barren for about 6 weeks prior. Incorporate organic matter into the soil. Use pelletized gypsum for heavy clay soils.
4. Apply 2-2-2 organic fertilizer prior to planting.
5. Dig holes 2-3 inches deep, place cloves with pointed side up. Space cloves 8 inches apart within rows, with rows also 8 inches apart.
6. Cover with soil and mulch (straw, or leaves work well). Water in thoroughly after planting.
7. In early spring, apply fish emulsion every 2 weeks for 3-4 applications. We recommend using a foliar spray. Liquid fish emulsion is easy to source online. Water once per week…a good soaking. If you have a hardneck garlic variety you will see a flower stalk grow (garlic scape). After this scape loops, remove as close to the plant as possible. Stop watering 2-3 weeks before harvest.
8. Harvest when there are 4-5 green leaves remaining.
9. Clean dirt off of bulbs and hang bulbs in a dry, shaded area for 3-4 weeks to cure. Duration of curing depends on your local climate.
10. Your garlic is now ready to enjoy!
